Art Transition Theme
Microsoft Store - New York Flagship

Microsoft's New York flagship store needed a way to transition between content on its enormous exterior LED matrix. Originally, the content just cross-faded. The ask was to design a more interesting way to transition. The final result uses animated screens, affixed to robot arms, that procedurally disassemble and resemble any content you add. The interior of the screens utilize some alpha channel trickery to create a reusable overlay. As a result, we no longer need to bake the animation in. Time is money and this asset saved us both!

The above is an visualization of the alpha channel stages, showing how the animation transitions from A to B without ever needing to re-render.
